Trout Fishing
Lake Taupo is stocked with both Rainbow and Brown Trout with Rainbow being the most prominent. The average size of the trout caught varies from 1.5kg to 2.0kg with the odd specimen over 4.0kg being recorded.
The most popular method of fishing is trolling or harling around the lake fringes at depths varying from 3 metres to 40 metres depending on the time of year and the whereabouts of food supply for the trout. Top Cat carries the best of tackle for all fishing methods.
Top Cat can also cater for those who prefer to fly fish with excursions to the remote Western Bays where numerous small streams enter the lake and the trout congregate. Angling can be done direct from the boat, wading around the shore, or by using kick boats or float tubes. (Minimum 5 hour charter recommended)
